FAQ's about our Intake Process : Click Here

Most providers offer a single approach, usually Discreet Trial Training or some form of Contemporary Applied Behavioral Analysis. When you consult with a typical provider, you will invariably be told that these are the best treatment approaches for your child. Their prescription will be based on their own existing program, rather than on your child's individual needs.

This is like having your prescription made out before having been seen by the doctor.

Available Treatments fall into two broad categories: Developmental (sometimes called "Child-Centered" or "Child-Directed") approaches, and Behavioral or "Highly Structured"

Developmental Approaches:

These approaches consider a child's current stage of development in various areas as extremely important in understanding how he thinks and understands the world. Treatment plans are based on this assessment of how the child thinks, and based on her own individual preferences, sensitivities, and experiential background, seek to use play and other natural routines to teach the vast majority of new developmental behavioral skills.

Behavioral Approaches:

These approaches consider the child's learning environment as an essential tool for teaching and changing behavior. An analysis is done of  the environment, and a program is developed to use the environment to change or teach new behaviors. "Structure" is used to direct the child through learning exercises, which may include the use of rewards when the child resists or does not want to cooperate with the adult-directed agenda.
